For many people with Central and Eastern European roots, this is a tradition dear to their hearts and rich in symbolism. Thanking God for all His gifts, the food of the Easter table is sanctified with the hope that spring will also be blessed by God's goodness and mercy. While everything for the Easter meal may be blessed, some of the more traditional foods include:
Eggs ~ symbol of new life and Christ's resurrection from the tomb.
Bread ~ symbol of Jesus, our Bread of Life.
Meats ~ symbol of great joy and abundance, and God's favor and generosity. The lamb also reminds Christians that the Risen Christ is the Lamb of God.
Salt ~ symbol of prosperity and justice; a reminder that people are the flavor of the earth.
Butter/Dairy ~ a reminder of the good will of Christ that we should have toward all things.
Join us to remember a tradition you may have grown up with, or create a new one for your own family. What better way to celebrate our Lord's resurrection than by sharing a holy meal of blessed food with loved ones!
