Welcome to Our Lady of Fatima! Your interest in becoming Catholic may be a tiny whisper, or it could be a strong voice in your life. Wherever you are on your journey, Our Lady of Fatima is here to accompany you. We invite you to learn about our OCIA program, prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation, and become full members of the Catholic family.
OCIA stands for Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is the process by which adults, teens, and children (ages 7+) prepare for full initiation into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, and/or Confirmation, and/or First Eucharist. This journey involves prayer, scripture study, integration into the community of the faithful, and participation in the liturgical and moral life of the Church. Learn more from the USCCB here.
OCIA serves those who have not been baptized, or have been baptized in another Christian tradition, and desire to become Catholic. OCIA is also for baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and/or First Eucharist.
The aim is to learn the major tenets of the Catholic Faith including in-depth discovery of the Apostle’s Creed, the meaning and effects of the seven Sacraments, the deep historical, mystical, and ritual character of the Holy Catholic Faith, and the Biblical roots of Catholicism dating back to the 1st century. Emphasis will be placed on intellectual, moral, and spiritual development.
Adults prepare for OCIA by attending Emmaus, a program designed to walk people through scripture, doctrine, and Church history. We journey together as a community of OCIA inquirers, new converts, returning Catholics, and lifelong Catholics while learning how to fully live our Christian faith. Youth (grades 6-12) prepare for OCIA through Youth Group. Children (age 7 through grade 5) prepare for OCIA through Children's Faith Formation.
