RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is the process by which adults, teens and children prepare for full initiation into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, and/or Confirmation, and/or First Eucharist. This journey of deepening faith involves prayer, scripture study, education, integration into the community of the faithful, and participation in the liturgical and moral life of the Church.
The RCIA serves those who have not been baptized, or have been baptized in another Christian tradition, who desire to become Catholic. The RCIA is also for baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and/or First Eucharist. Finally, any Catholic who wishes to deepen his/her understanding of and commitment to the faith is invited to participate in the RCIA classes.
The aim will be to learn the major tenets of the Catholic Faith including in-depth discovery of the Apostle’s Creed, the understanding of the meaning and effects of the seven Sacraments, the deep historical, mystical and ritual character of the Holy Catholic Faith, including the Biblical roots of Catholicism dating back to the 1st century. Emphasis will be placed on intellectual, moral and spiritual development in order to prepare the soul to meet the mystery of God in its depth, height, width and breadth.
